A major European city decides to ban cars permanently. How do the inhabitants deal with this drastic adjustment? Through a playful collage of fragments from the car-free corners of Europe, edited together to form an imaginary city, this documentary embarks on an exploratory journey. In doing so, it aims to stimulate the imagination and formulate an alternative response to the social and ecological challenges of today.
The title of the film refers to a fallacy the automobile lobby used to ban pedestrians to the sidewalk. Supposedly men would read the newspaper in the middle of the street, thereby blocking car traffic.
